RE: Houston Chronicle 8/8/04

After reading your article in the Houston Chronicle on Sunday about being "born a Texan" and living in California......I hope you stay there. Hopefully, an earthquake will cause CA to disappear into the Pacific and we can all live happier lives. A true Texan, American and a conservative.... God help us if Kerry wins.....!!!

RE: Houston Chronicle Article "Guilty of Being Texan"

I read your article in the Houston Chronicle and your claims may be well received by your fellow texans, especially your fellow republican Texans, who do not know better and will likely based their judgement on their stereotypes of California. I can judge it better because I am from California and I am a liberal but have been living in Texas for over 10 years now. How do you think Texans have treated me? I am not only a liberal from CA but also Mexican. I could have written the same article and would have sounded 10 times worse. At least northern CA, does not have brutish, unsophisticated, low class rednecks and klansmen on suit and ties giving jobs to their white unqualified cronies. At least northern CA does not have racism and rampant descrimination. You thought you were a liberal but you are not.. if you were you would be in heaven and would not miss Texas at all. The treatment you have received is not because you are a Texan, I lived there long enough to know Californias do not judge people based on estereotypical ideas of others. I tend to believe it was because you are probably a republican, or like many Texans I know and work for you probably feel it is ok to say off color remanks, racial slurs, put other down, show disrespect for other cultures, etc. That kind of brutish behavior may have gone well in Texas but Californias do not care much for that nonsense. The resposnses you are getting in CA are because of how you are and not where you are from

RE: (NO SUBJECT)

Hi Joe...

As a Pennsylvanian who has lived in Houston off and on for 25 years and heard every nasty Yankee reference, I sympathize with you. Best retort...total silence while looking right in the eyes of the rude little devil who is insulting you. As for the girl who walked out on the first date...consider yourself lucky...just think if you had fallen for her. All this garbage saddens me...I always thought we were one country.

DF, Houston
